Resolved Question: Moving removalists and wonky quotes?? Help?

Ok we’re moving 2 hrs and 16 mins away door to door (checked on google maps and tested it. is true.) We’ve been getting quotes for $2,100 But on our calculations it comes to 1,500?? How does this work? We’ve seen $120 per hr for 2 men. So it goes like this: Upload 3 hrs steer 2 hrs 16 min Unload 5 hrs steer back 2 hrs 16 min = 12 hrs 30 min X $120 per hr = $1,500 right? Is this reasonable? Are we expected to pay for them to eat lunch? Situation from regular estate home 3 bed 1 study. No piano no pool table. every light bamboo furniture. Nothing that me and my sister (age 18 21) haven’t easily lifted (other than 3 pot plants which we use a trolley for.) most everything is ready in the garage. To a home where half goes up stairs and half down. Strait external stairs. Some have quoted without knowing the destination. We’ve had over the phone quotes cheaper. But we don’t want another one of those bad experiences “well… that’ll be…”

Resolved Question: How should I move my washing machine?

We are moving home, and when we bought our washing machine we got it delivered... but looking at it now it seems incredibly heavy and scary, and I'm not looking forward to moving it down the stairs, lifting it up into a van, and then getting it up 2 more flights of stairs at the new place... will we just need a step trolley and some strong men, or would you suggest we try to receive removalists? I'm just not sure exactly how heavy it is, and whether we will have problems... Thanks!

Resolved Question: Where can I find a decent removalist in Sydney?

Hi, I'm moving in 4 weeks from Sydney to Wagga Wagga and I'm looking to book my removalist today or tomorrow but I've only had a few quotes so far and as I haven't been in Sydney very long I don't know where to find the best removalists - I don't want to end up with someone dodgy. Can anyone help with a website where people can recommend good removalists or can someone recommend a removalist that they've used in the past? Any help appreciated! Cheers, Ally

Voting Question: What happens when your removalists "loses" a box in a move?

We "lost" a box during a move from QLD back to NSW. We were not insured as we were following the truck. The company were Auswide Van Lines and they won't return my calls. My husband also moved most of our things to the truck, I didnt think this was allowed. Is it? The movers said if he didn't move our things outside to the truck, the move would cost an exta $3000. CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME?????

Resolved Question: Anyone know any large scale removalists?

We need to move Israel. That's the only way to solve every that middle east drama. When we gave Israel their land at the end of WW2, we probably didn't foresee the significance that this area would play in the future, the future in which we live now. We need the oil that's there and with Israel that close, it just makes it that much more difficult to receive it.

Resolved Question: Cheapest way to move furnitures from Sydney to Brisbane?

Removalists quote between $1K-$4K. Is there any other way? Will you spend that much if you'll only live there for a short period of time i.e. 2-3yrs (before moving again to another state)?

Resolved Question: Need advice on helping out our friends?

Recently our best friends have had a real run of drama - he was retrenched and had to take a job in another city. Then is wife fell pregnant. This weekend they have asked us to help them move home. In particular he wants my husband to help with every the heavy lifting and to use our trailer. My husband is worried about his back (we are not young anymore) plus he is an industrial electrician with his possess company and if he puts his back out it means he cannot work. I also have very bad knees. We can help with smaller boxes etc but they have a steep flight of 20 steps to their flat and we know it is going to be difficult work. They don't have the money for removalists and we offered to lend them, but they don't want to be in debt. Our pal can be a bit pushy and we feel we are in a position where we will leave him in the lurch. We have always saved our money in the case of difficult times, however they are spendthrifts and I think this is why we feel a bit put out. We know that he will try to receive us to move everything in one day, and we know it is going to take us till midnight. We really do value their friendship and don't want to jeopardise it. Our pal doesn't steer either

Resolved Question: When you moved house, did you let the movers pack your valuable items?

I'm trying to decide whether to receive the movers (removalists) to pack every my stuff, some of my stuff or only the stuff which isn't valuable. The thing I'm worried about is that they'll dent a canvas painting, or drop something fragile, or put two items together in a box that will scratch each other... the employer is paying for the move, so it's not the cost that bothers me but whether or not I should let the men handle my more important possessions. Has anybody here had a problem with things being damaged during moving home?

Resolved Question: Speaker problems. No sound when I turn them on. I only get sound when I quickly cycle the power at the wall.?

Altec Lansing Speakers. 2 speakers and a subwoofer. You power them on by pressing volume up and down simultaneously. The problems only started after we moved. Could it be bad packing on the behalf of the removalists? Speakers about 6 years old and have worked perfectly until after the move. Headphones and anything else I plug into the PC work fine. The power on light shows up even when no sound comes on. To receive them working, I turn the power off and a split second later the sound turns on and then I have to quickly flick the switch on to make them work. Afterwards, I can use the normal power on/off method but if they are off for a couple of hours, I have to repeat the process.

Resolved Question: How do I pack / wrap artwork?

We are moving to a new State. I have several big framed artworks with glass and a couple of big canvases. What is the best way to carefully wrap / pack them? Should I wrap them in bubble-wrap and paper - will that be sufficient? I would hate to arrive at our new home and the glass smashed or the canvas punctured. We are doing the packing ourselves before the removalists arrive (to keep a few $$).

Resolved Question: Driving a rental car interstate in Aus...cheap?

Moving home, live in Sydney, moving to Perth. Only have a bedroom to move so removalists are too expensive. Would adore to do a Sydney to Perth steer so figured if we can receive a one ton van for rent in Sydney and drop it off in Perth it would be perfect. Did a bit of research and most car companies charge between $700 and $6000 for a 'relocation fee'. Is there a way around this with another company? I also saw on tv, people needing their cars moved interstate so pay someone to steer it for them. Where can i find this?

Resolved Question: What would you name a localised real estate or property guide?

I'm considering launching a real estate or property guide in my local area and have a few ideas for the title, but am not sold on any of them in particular. Can anyone think of a fantastic name for such a publication? Basically, it will be either a weekly or monthly publication. It will be feature advertisements from local real estate agents and I wish also mortgage brokers and the like, plus perhaps removalists etc. It will also contain articles related to the real estate industry and moving home etc, property features and agent profiles. every suggestions welcome! :)

Resolved Question: Should I trade the child support payments for the deeds to the house-NSW Australia?

My ex and I separated and we have already had the property settlement done in court. I have to pay him a set amount of money. The court did not order the home to be sold, but I can only pay him his share if we sell the home. However, his child support payments have just been adjusted, and are quite a bit higher now than when we did property settlement in court. It would mean in 4 years time, he would have saved paying me what he is supposed to receive below settlement. It also means the kids (3 and 6 years old) and I would not have to find somewhere else to live, move etc. I can refinance whats left of the mortgage into my name without a problem, plus keep real estate fees, solicitors, removalists etc too. Should I offer him no more child support payments ever, if he signs the home over to me? I can't find a website that offers this nice of advice to people. I live in rural NSW, Australia-that might be important to know legally?

Resolved Question: Suburban moving in Brisbane?

Bought a used tiny 250L fridge off ebay and the item is located in a neighborhood suburb (less than 5km) north side of Brisbane. I just don't know how to pick it up and bring it home! Is there any single item removalist around that charge something like $50 to pick it up and deliver it? It is only a half-an-hour job but Minimovers and other removalists charge a lot as they have big trucks and minimum charge times. (Note: Please do not offer truck or trailer hire)

Resolved Question: Best way to move from Brisbane to Canberra?

My family is moving from Brisbane to Canberra in June. There are 2 adults and 2 kids below 5. We do not actually live in Brisbane but will be staying there for 1 week before we move as our tiny town has no transport down there. Our furniture will be in storage or sold as we have had bad experiences with removalists in the past, so we only have to worry about ourselves. Should we steer and sight look along the way, take a plane or bus- we were considering buying a new car before the move down in Canberra. I want to steer and have a short holiday but fear my kids may be too restless. The plane is easy but the bus is cheaper?? Also my husband has never been on a public bus his whole life- he is 26, and I haven't been on one in 7 years. Anyone made the move before? Done it with kids? Any suggestions would be great.

Resolved Question: Can anyone interpret my dream?

I can only remember a little bit of it. I dreamt that I woke up in my bed thinking something was wrong, so got up and found that every the furniture in our home was gone. I freaked out thinking I had been robbed, when I looked out the window and saw a removalist truck parked in our driveway and that the removalists were arguing with my neighbours because the were supposed to pack up my neighbours home and had packed up mine by mistake. Then I turned around and saw my dog (great dane cross) fighting with a pitball in my dining room. I don't even know how the pit bull got in. My dog lost and ran down the hallway into my bedroom, I followed, scared of the pit bull, but the pit bull didn't threaten me and wagged its tail as I went past (acted like it was my pal). When I got into my bedroom, I was comforting my dog, when every of a sudden I noticed another dog in my bedroom - a little white maltese terrier who was every excited to look me. odd dream! Any ideas what it means?

Resolved Question: What to do when a company doesn't pay me back what they owe?

I hired removalists when I moved out of my old unit and these guys made 3 big holes on the walls. The apartment manager hired a handyman to fix it and he took $180 out of my rental bond. He gave me an invoice for that so I faxed it through to the removalists company. The owner of the removalist company promised me to transfer the money to my bank account on the next day. However he has kept breaking his promises. It's been a week waiting for the money to be transfered. Because I don't trust him anymore I called him today to transfer the money by tomorrow. But he said he would do it on Monday. I was god damn annoyed so I raised my voice saying transfer it by tomorrow. Then he started losing his temper, swore at me and said if he was younger he would kill me. I found no reason to talk with him any longer so I told him I would take this into the court and hung up. What actions can I take in this case? I am really mad in that he swore at me and threatened me.

Resolved Question: Lady Wooster belives it is wrong?

to evict a tenant farmer on christmas eve, I disagree. It has greater effect as they will not be able to receive removalists or find somewhere to stay as it is christmas eve. She believes the psychological effect of evicting them actually on christmas day is far more effective to instill fear amongst the peasants, as they are every warm and tucked up in their tiny little houses on the estate feeling good and then bailiffs appear and toss their furniture out into the snow. they havnt actualy done anything done anything its just a family tradition started by Lord Wooster the first (also know as Lord Percy the glad} If any one has an opinion which method is better to control the peasants with please answer with expediency
